November Report

November was a weird month – weather screwy and warm had fish messed up – still not stacked up creeks!

The trout have been plentiful on days and in spots but SMALL for most parts. It has made for a lot of fun with a few eaters possible in mix. There has also been a few short drum along the shoreline for a stronger pull – I got my first this month! DOA Deadly Combo has been the best lure for these even this late in year. My Minn Kota I Pilot anchor lock did an awesome job holding me in spots catching these trout when I found school. A few have been caught on DOA CAL jigged on bottom and Rapala Twitchin Raps sub surface but they couldn’t keep up with the Combo. Cooler water temps SHOULD move trout into inland creeks – we will have to see what happens BUT hope they will survive to reproduce and help improved out stock status.

The rock have been confused too with warm weather. A large part of the stock have stayed down river providing some fun action and bent rods my way. NC Wildlife was stocking this month in Neuse and are sad to say that stocked fish not being seen returning up river to spawn. Catch and mortality seem to be the factors here. The local docks and bridges have produced well top water and with jigs. 20” + rock have been stuck on and fairly regular basis especially early AM and late PM. I even found a new awesome bait for jigging – DOA Terroreyz. I use both white and chartreuse and solid chartreuse. We have been using it in Florida on snook and figured it would do great on rock and WOW the inhaled it. My go to now.

That’s it for November – hope December brings a tad better excitement.

Watch for next post on annual HIBERNATION!!!! Stay Tuned
