Late Oct Report

It has been a long few days – strong NW winds and low water.
I had several great fun trips managing a few flounder, drum and trout.
Out with Bob and his sister Anne for a short trip on first windy day and managed to get a short drum for pictures.  We had a blast with her ready to come back next summer.
Next it was the Johnson couple; Stanley and Joanna. Found a nice round of trout in the still strong NW wind – tagging a bunch. He was the winner of my give away at Bass Pro Cary DOA seminar. Great folks I hope to see again.
Saturdays Shrine club event went great with 47 adults and 7 jr anglers. 6 slams weighed in with Tony Jackson, one of our proud Marines taking first place with 11.22 pounds.
Sunday was out with the Lelekacs; Joanna and Bill. We found some flounder and had a great time. New to fishing and boating but guaranteed to see them on the water soon.
Monday was a fun filled day with Ron Cantrell and Dan Todd. We started out hooking a nice drum and then moving in on a load of trout with most undersize with several nice ones mixed in.
Tuesday was a trip I have been setting up all year. I had a son in law book a trip for his mother in law to learn how to fish at 80 years old. Great couple and a beautiful am morning work for my plans.  Found and few trout and a rock with Woody catching first short trout. Didn’t get Ruby to hook up; she did get 1 hit, but hopefully enough technic to get her going.
Wow – few days off to catch up on trolling motor and Talon repairs, clean up boat, and……….
Hope to hit rock with wind shift – WANNA GO? Call me.

Oct Update

My first day back on water with 6 days ahead to go. River is in bad shape but still fish around. Hopefully weather shifts will flush and bring fall fishing on strong.
Out this morning scouting and did manage to find 1 hungry trout at 17 inch – then back out in afternoon and found 3 more hungry missing 1 large fish on sub surface and 2 on top water. Bob go t hi best ever with a 24 ½ calculated to be 5.25 lb that we released to be caught again and also tagged. I am back at it again tagging trout for NCDMF studies.
I hear and will confirm that rock action is improving in New Bern also – stay tuned.
Booked up for October  but openings through Thanksgiving in November – call me.

Mid Oct Update

OK – our fall sabbatical is over – let’s get to work!
Drum season was off but we worked through it – rain and water quality kept most fish down river this year.
Now – trout and rock season is on and still have a water quality issue! Is any agency paying attentions? Rock bite of recent has been dead along with trout bite up river.
Some nice fish being caught down river including both trout and drum. Hopefully conditions will improve up river. Daniel Toler had a real nice 25 inch trout and Michael had a 27 inch drum with 47 spots!
NOW – the shop will be getting mud minnows in tank soon and will be discounting a lot of gear for the final 2 months of 2014. This will include:
Water Snake 80lb Trolling Motors – Reg $750 – SALE $600
All Betts cast nets – Reg $32-$45 – SALE $25
Diawa Opus Plus drum combos – Reg $140 – SALE $130
Gift Certificates available also for holiday gifts for shop or charters.
Charter bookings firing up – booked up for rest of October – November is getting active – call now!
