Lets Talk Layton Bay 22

I had the pleasure of meeting Carlton and Doug Layton of Layton Boatworks today to see and ride in their new Layton Bay 22. They are a class act in the boating world in my opinion based on my 35 years of boat experience. They know the details of boat building and repair and are excellent at sharing the knowledge. There 22 is all glass – NO wood with all bulkheads and stringers hand laid right in the shop. He consulted marine architects and built this boat for our coastal waters making it a perfect match for our conditions.
This boat rode and handled better than any boat of this size that I have operated. The wind was up a bit and all angles of approach were handled with a smooth and dry ride. I tried to slam, spray, etc. without success. There is ample room to move around and fish without running into others. Storage area is great too with 2 live wells in stern. All the stuff needed for inshore light tackle and BIG Drum fishing, handling the rough weather trips.
It is a goal of mine to have one of these for my charter services allowing me to use one boat instead of 2. Let’s see if I can make it happen.
You can see this boat on facebook at Layton Bay Boats and if looking for a new boat, I highly recommend you make this one of your to look at boats. A ride will probably convince you it is the boat you need!
