Nov 28 2012 Trout Report

If you haven’t been out targeting the trout, you need to go!
The bite has been excellent with loads of legal fish and some nice citation grade too. Nice to see the larger stock; haven’t weighed in many trout in 2 years. Also have had some great report of puppy drum catches; not the slot fish we are missing but lots of pups that hopefully will make it to slot stuff later.
John Watkin caught this nice trout Thanksgiving fishing with his son. He is new to area and love the fall experience here and sharing it with his son. He caught his on a Yo Zuri 3D Minnnow (old style.)
JB landed this over 6 pound trout and limiting out with 18-20 inch fish. He was fish the same Rapala Twitchin Raps I fish.
MUD Minnows are in my tank now too for live bait guys!!!
This fishing should continue good right on barring a major freeze OR overfishing on both recreation and commercial fishing. Remember the law is only 4 per person per day recreational and 75 daily for commercial. Don’t be afraid to report any illegal action to authorities to help us maintain the stock status we have currently. We should all do our part to help our great fishery.
The rock have been sporadic at best in New Bern. Hopefully the top water bite will pick up. I did get a bad news story yesterday about oil I the water around Duck creek with dead trout in it. Hopefully DWQ and Neuse River Keeper will get this resolved too.
I am ready to help fill your Christmas list with a good selection of rods (TFO, Daiwa and Kunaan) , reels ( Daiwa Exceler& AIRD), Frogg Togg rain gear, Stick it Poles (8-12 foot) and stuff. And don’t forget my T shirts and Shrimp Earrings. I can mail some of these items if you can’t get in town to come see me. Gift Certificates are also available at $25 increments. These can be used for purchase or charters.
I will be hold my Customer Appreciation Fish Stew 9 (fresh Rock) Saturday Dec 8. I will serve from 12pm until gone. If you fish that morning, bring your largest trout or rock in for a free T Shirt awarded for the largest of each species brought in by 1pm. This is my way of saying Thanks for another good year!
AND AGAIN – bring a toy for TOYS for TOTs and get a 10% discount on in stock purchases.
Be safe on water – water temps in 40s now can send hypothermia in fast!

Today’s AM trip with Stephen Dauerbach, his son Christopher from Pennsylvania and Joey Freeman was a TFO (Gary Loomis) Rods, Daiwa Reels, Fins Braid and Rapala Twitchin Rap kind of a day. We landed well over 25 trout keeping a good mess for a meal or 2 and releasing the rest. Great COLD weather fishing – move /catch a few / move / …… Majority of the trout were caught on the Twitchin’ Rap, fished slow and very effective. This was Christopher’s first ever trout fishing and he put on a show with the Twitchin’ Rap.
Come join the fun – call to book a trip soon.

Windy Weekend Update

Sitting here still getting over my stuff listening to all the great fishing reports! SUCKS to say the least. My times coming soon though.
Trout fishing has been on fire this week even with the wind. There are fish in and out of the creeks with nice limits being had. David, from Greensboro, and his 2 mates as novices had a great day Friday limiting out on big fish with one caught by Robert Angle weighing in at 5.3 pounds. Let’s all in Pamlico County say thanks to these guys and others like them that come here to enjoy our fishery and support our economy in motels, restaurants and stores.
James Holloway also came in with a fish he thought would make the scales but came up a little short. He also had a numerous count for Friday limiting out on nice fish for the table.
Several large rock have been hooked around Minnesott in the past week but not landed. New Bern action is picking up also around bridge and reef.
I am going to be back on schedule; Lord willing, after Thanksgiving. Give me a call to book up for this great action we have this year.
The shop will be close Thanksgiving day to spend time with the New family. Yes, Michael Carawan is now my son in law and see how he wanted to be pictured at their wedding.  He is labeled now as AnklEDeeP too. I will open back up Friday am (BLACK FRIDAY). Come bring a gift for Toys for Tots and get 10% savings on your in stock purchase. Great selection of rod, reels and tackle PLUS will have my Shrimp Earrings in stock next week for the ladies. Various colors with either gold or sterling hoops. One of a kind apparel for our fishin’ ladies.
Most of all – spread thanks to all around the table Thursday for what we have.

Nov 16 Update

Fishing is nothing but getting better and better for most – me down on my rear. Ailing a bit but on the mend.
Water levels have been great with northerly wind and has spiked up the rock. Have had reports and pictures from Oriental to New Bern of some nice catches; both top water and jig bites. These were caught both as supplement to trout trips and targeting.
Trout numbers have been up too with several citations coming through my shop. We are in for a great winter without any inclement weather or over fishing! Guy Ireland landed this nice 5.94 27 ½ trout this week as well as Cindy Brann with her 24 ½ fish.
Rock baits currently producing are Storm Chug Bug, Rapala Skitter Walk, Rapala Rippin Rap, Rockin Wobble and DOA CAL jigs.
Trout have been hitting the normal Mirrolure baits but I have had a run on Rapala Twitching Raps of late. It has been back and forth between them and OLD Yozuri 3D Minnows I have in stock. DOA CAL and shrimp are the rubber jig bait of choice.
I just got in some TFO Signature 6’6” Light spinning rods that are sweet.  Paired 2 6’ with Daiwa Exceler 20 reels and man they are matched perfect. I like 7’ but a lot like shorter rods.
Will be back on the water hopefully next week – wanta get some? Call to book a trip for trout rock or mixed bag.

Mid Nov Report

Weather has made for some interesting fishing lately. Storms and wind making it tough but fish are still here and hungry. River and creek mouth shore fisherman and not seeing the numbers they had last week; well guess where they are going??? Trout are schooling back in the creeks setting up for a great winter fishery. Hard plastics and rubber jigs both producing well. You know my choices – DOA and Rapala. The Twitchin’ Rap has been doing a great job of late if you fish it correct; slow and easy. I like the DOA jerk shads right now as well in the natural colors. My son in law – Michael Carawan has been wearing them out (releasing most) fishing back creeks from the shore and in his boat on the Twitchin’ Rap.
I had 2 brothers in 2 days catch citation trout, Allen Buck got his (5+lb) fishing a pier in the Neuse while his brother Buck Jones caught his (6.2lb) the next day and isn’t telling where he got it. Imagine that – at least he isn’t lying!
The rock report is good in downriver creeks and up river ledges. I had one report of large number being caught by 2 anglers in a creek with one being around 15lb. Keep that in mind when you are out trout fishing that one may just take the bait. These guys were trout fishing!!!!
I have just got in a new selection of TFO Light 7’and 6’6” Signature Series spinning rods to compliment my current stock of signatures and Inshore Tactical series rods. I also got my new T shirts in as well in long and short sleeve. Holding off on UVs until late winter/spring.
One more important thing – I have set up to help our Marines with Toys for Tots in Pamlico County this year. Please help me fill this and more boxes with new toys for the needy kids. My part will be that I will give anyone that brings a gift will get a 10% discount on any in stock purchase from my shop. Just let me know you saw this offer. I will be collecting until around the 14 of Dec when they will pick up our goods. I challenge all my friends and customers to bring at least one gift whether you want my discount or not.
Let’s go Fishin’ – have openings to catch loads of trout and rock all winter long. Get Booked.
Be safe on cold water – your body temperature saps quick now if you fall in.
