Late Oct Update

Sandy has slowed me down long enough to update what has been going on.
Pamlico County Shrine Club Trout Tournament was a huge success with 49 entrant plus 7 jr anglers enjoying good weather and a fun event. Dale Hales won the event with a 4.4 lb trout earning $1000 cash and a beautiful trout trophy. Michael carried my grandson but no trout. The picture shows his nice catch, a 28 inch rock. Not a tournament fish but they had a limit of them along with limit of drum and 6 black drum.
Michael on another trip had a nice 4.6 lb trout caught on DOA Cal Jerk Shad. That’s 2 or 3 of the 4+ lb fish he has had. He will get his 5 yet.
Friday before the tournament I had the opportunity to have Danny and Grand Pa Andrew Paschal out for a trout trip.  Danny from Houston, Texas is an avid fisherman and along with his grand pa managed some nice trout fishing DOA Deadly Combo. I enjoyed talking with Andrew about his past missionary services around the world. Fine people and good trip
Joey and Glen Nobles were next. Joey won this trip at a Ducks Unlimited Banquet that I had donated to the cause. He and his dad talk more BS than me but I hung in there with them. They fished their own rods mostly and their favorite MR17s. I did get them the TFO feel before they got off the boat and believe they will have one in time. We worked hard and managed some nice trout mixed in with a few shorties. Made for a fun trip.
Jim and Barbara Kalkwarf from Conover NC were next. They had never caught trout but had almost everything else around the world. We started with a short top water bite and then beat the water hard. Little early success until I finally headed down river and found a school of nice trout that were nailing the Rapala Twitchin Rap. Ended the trip with a limit of nice trout and I received comment back that they were “like eating heaven” Glad they had the experience of our good fishery.
Last but not least; I had Capt Gary Dubiel on MY boat Friday am early before weather got too rough. Found some calmer water in attempts to hit top water action – damn it was good. We both had a slam of Trout/Drum/Rock with Gary also getting a flounder on the jig later. We fished Rapala Skitter Walk and Storm Chug Bugs.  Couple of hours of friendly fun helps when we are always taking everyone else.
This weather should help our local conditions in the Neuse and hopefully not cause much harm. The fish kill in the upper stretches of the Neuse has been cause by a mold spore on bottom that needs colder water to stop. We should have a great flush and cooler water this week. I can’t wait for rock to get back down river.
Have openings for trout and rock trips waiting for you. Fishing is only going to get better. Call to Book a trip.
Shop loaded with all your needs and Muds in tank.
