Top Water Trout

Time to start back to light tackle. Weather cooling and so is water temp.
I had a great morning with my man Michael. He told me he was going trout fishing this morning early and I invited myself. Man did we have a time. Trout, flounder and drum. Slam except no slot drum. We must have had 20 + trout in about 2 hours with the most coming off top water. One knocked it in the air hooking up.  It was an excellent sign of what we have coming to us this fall. What we didn’t catch on top water came on DOA shrimp. If you haven’t used these you need to. It even out fished live shrimp today.
I carry probably the best supply of DOA in the area, so come check it out.
Now booking light tackle mixed bag trips that can also start out targeting the rock on top water along with trout and others.

NC Angler Trip

Get trip with Randy with http://www.ncangler.com and Mike getting each a late season citation 45 and 42 inch drum in rough water conditions. Believe it - a flounder on 10/0 circle! Mike claims to be the flounder man and I think this says it all.

Great guys and Great site

Only 3 days left open 16,17 18 Oct - call if you want to tackle one.

First Cold Front

Cold front has not hurt the drum bite much as of yet. Reports still coming in of morning catches today. We will have to see what the rest of the week holds but I feel we have another week or so of decent catches.
Michael took his father, uncle and niece out on my Mako last Saturday before the front and connected them with their first Big Drum. They all hit citation fish for their exceptional catches.
I did a mixed bag survey trip today and ended up finding several nice (legal 15-16”) mixed in with a lot of small flounder. This was my final lagging trip for Tim Ellis and was productive until the tag sheet blew away! Damn wind. I had 9 in the well to tag and had tagged 5 before the tags sailed away. I would have surely used them all up if? Ended up culling out undersize ones and brought 2 home for tomorrows’ supper. It has been a great honor to have worked with Tim and can’t wait to see his final report.
Rock season opens Oct 1 but keep in mind the rules and lines. I can’t wait to get the top water bite going.
I am still bookings big drum trip through Sept 29th and getting a lot of calls for the upcoming rock season. Call early for a FUN trip.

Drum Update

Drum season continues on. It has slowed a bit but I don’t think it’s done. I will give it 2 more weeks or so.
Slow pace hasn’t hurt me yet. I had Michael and my buddy Barnacle Bob out for his first trip since back surgery and damn we had fun. We had to wait for am storms to pass so didn’t get out as early. Lines in the water about 8:30 and 5 drum plus 1 ray by 10:30. Two fish were 44 and 48 inches. His back held up well until the next day but Barnacle survived. Next trip will be top water rock for him. You can’t throw an old fishin’ buddy away!
Mixed bag action is still producing well with mixed catches. Some nice trout and flounder have been caught with the smaller ones. This action should continue to improve into the fall.
Along with that will come the rock action. It is my best fun of the year. I can top water early and move on to trout and stuff.
Bookings are coming in for rock trips so call early and still have days open for big drum too.
Stay tuned to UNCtv this weekend for Carolina Outdoor Journal. Gary Dubiel and myself put on a show for Joe Albea that morning and I can’t wait to see it. See below for times and you will be glad you watched it.
Saturday September 8 at 7:30 am Tuesday September 11 at 9am & 4pm and Wednesday September 12 at 2am.

I got my first stock of new C-eye Mirrolures in – come see them.
