Pre 4th Report

It has been a busy week – working Neuse River shoreline for trout and drum. Drum are tough to come by but hopefully will improve.
I was out with Chef Evan Cordes Monday. We worked hard to get 3 legal fish with on 21”er and sighted a pod of tarpon, hooking into one but – PING! He hit a DOA shrimp thrown in the area. Great sign of tarpon so far for you big fish chasers.
I had Stuart Creigton return for another adventure Thursday. Damn stiff West wind make for tough am conditions on the river. We work the shoreline from Turnagan to Club Foot and only had 4 short trout, 2 hard crabs and 1 eel. We get these days but I hate them. DOA shrimp either fished naked without float or Deadly Combo has been my go to bait.
I took my wife; who is retired as on this report, out Tuesday afternoon late for a couple of hours around here. Worked rocky shore and had 5-6 trout and same on small flounder throwing DOA 3”shrimp. Good fun short bonding trip.
New shipment of TFO 7’ rods coming in in L, M/L and M. Match that with a Diawa AIRD reel spooled w/ Fins brand and DOA on the end and hang on.
Drum season is just around the corner. Get all you gear ready/respooled for another great season. I am now booking big drum trips so don’t wait until it’s too late. Give me a call for them or any of our targeted fish.
A reminder for the Bay River fishermen. Bay River Campground now has my inventory with live mud minnows too, accessible from the river. Stop in and see Rachel for all your needs.
Stay Safe.

Neuse Trout

Back to my local waters again missing the Florida action.
No gator trout but loads of trout. I didn’t hit the water until 10 am and had about 15 trout by 12. Kept a 4 fish limit of 15-17 inchers, tagged 5 and released others. Fished river shore that I have never fished throwing DOA shrimp – they can’t stand it.
I also threw the DOA 2”i Shrimp and caught small pups and flounder. My new technique that works great.
This is for those who don’t think there are any legal fish around. Come get you DOA (American Made) and get at it.
If you don’t have a boat or just what some instruction – lets go – book today while wind isn’t blowing.

Me & Bay River Campground
My inventory is now set at Bay River Campground, mud minnows in the tank too. If you are fishing the Bay River or camping at Bay River Campground, Rachel will be glad to help you. She is learning fast from my fishing knowledge and their dock should be repaired soon. You can get to shop now by pulling in canal where ramp is and call Rachel at 252 745-4879. I thank them as much as they thank me for sharing our willingness to provide fisherman the stuff they need. Let me know if I can help and will probably start some charters out of there too at a later date.

Neuse River Trout and Black Drum
.JPG)
Great am trip out with David and Johnnie – old buddies. Found lots of trout but tough to hook up with stiff NE wind that was to be NW at 10!!! Move to calmer waters and found some legal/edible guys to make supper for them. Miss numerous fish though where we could have had a double or triple limit. Don’t let anyone tell you there are no fish. Let’s go. Call to book a fun filled trip.
Black Drum reports coming in strong to – haven’t tried yet but its time.
Thanks for all the early response to my tackle and bait at Bay River Camp Ground – Rachel and Frank told me yesterday that they have tank ready for my MUDS. I will get some there for this coming weekend.
