Minnesott Beach Fishing Reports

Tuesday, July 05, 2011

4th of July

If not for the punishment of our fisheries, the weather is continually hammering us. Overall things are rather slow with some reports of nice flounder being the prize catch. An occasional trout or drum can be nabbed on your favorite artificial with live and cut bait proving the best. Top water rock can still be caught in New Bern, great action for a slow summer fishery.

My daughter and her BO went out and caught some live shrimp soaking them around Neuse docks getting trout, drum and black drum. This was during the middle of the day too.

Henry and Marie of Deep Creek Lures stopped by to take some of my money showing of their shoreline catch on their baits. Nice pair of slots and this shows their product works too.

I and Gary Dubiel went south last week landing in Jenson Beach Florida fishing with various local guides during the DOA Lures writer’s event. It was a great time of food, beverage and fellowship with the best of fishing with DOA products. We caught trout, snook, tarpon, snapper, black drum, lady fish, spanish mackerel, catfish and more. Loads of species and quantities. Bait everywhere! Some huge fish too. I fished Monday with Jim Harter targeting snook and tarpon. Tough morning with one snapper and one huge snook. Measured over 41” long and weighing 32 lb. A rare catch that didn’t take my bait but was great to watch. Tuesday I fished with Capt Jeremy Neff and his bride. How luck of a draw! We stayed in one canal all morning looking at huge snook laying under the docks wanting nothing but did get some good fish busting in the greenies. I caught on a white DOA ¼ jig head with a watermelon CAL jerk bait. They would all but rip it out of your hand. Kind of like a rock but with a much more aggressive peel off at first hook up. I did land a lady fish and catfish too. We did wade fish around a bridge both days catching smaller trout. One on my first cast in Florida waters on a white DOA shrimp.

Heading north we stopped in Beaufort SC to fish with Capt Owen Plair. They have an over 6 foot tide change there, much different than here. We fished grass shorelines and oyster beds throwing DOA shrimp and Cal jerk baits catching slot drum running along the shore. We did cast to a couple of tarpon with no hook up too. Capt Owen poled his rear of in the wind to help put us on fish.

Bottom line, it makes me sick to see the fisheries other neighboring states have along with the people using the local shops and filling all the public ramps they have. What a way to liven the economy and generate tax revenue. Maybe one day we will have this, but until, XXXXXXX.

I hope to have my new line of Denali microfiber polyester shirts soon. They are so cool and have a 50 UV protection rating. Not hot at all. I got in a Columbia shirt similar, thanks to them for putting me in their guide program. If you would like one, let me know size and I will place in order. If I get enough orders I can sell for $32.95 or if not $39.95. Well worth the money.

Don’t forget all the other gear I carry and install at discounted prices.

Look for possible early drum trips. Conditions are right and the way this summer is going anything’s possible. Call me to get booked.

Be Safe on the water.
