Mid Oct Update

5.36

Believe it - there are citation trout showing up! We have been tagging butt loads of 12-14” fish but now may be able to stick some larger stuff. Cooler weather w/lowering water temps might be whats needed.

With that said - lets get into the tournament mode. Pamlico County Shrine Club Trout Tournament is set for this Sat 23rd - weather looking good - prizes for you shaping up - now just need fishermen AND kids. The kids are what make this. Who’s gonna fill our shoes when we are gone. Early registration ended today but if you tell me you saw this post, I will honor the early $50 fee. We also have 3 nice items to raffle off during the event; 72 Igloo, portable gas grill and custom carved green wing teel. We are doing different on largest fish - Steve Barber is making a custom Trout Trophy that i would love to win. Also, one sponsor is putting up $500 for the largest fish 8# or over. Might not be out of possible.

Rock still hit in New Bern waters and I have the artificial bait for them. Also working on some new combos to have ready for this winter.

Live shrimp has been tough for me so far - new supplier and poor water in river. Going to try again this late week if my guy can go. I am also going back after my mud minnows. I haven’t caught many since August but time to get on them again. They will fish all winter; even in freezing water.

Remember, I can help you with your Power Pole, trolling motor, and Costa Del Mar needs. Speaking of Power Pole, there is a $250 certificate to be given away during tournament provided by them - great savings for whoever gets it.

And if you want to come fish with me and/or need somewhere to stay while here - give us a call. I have access to a great 2 Bdrm right on Dawson Creek, dock and all. You can catch right off dock too.

Stay safe

Early Oct Report 2010

Falls here and so is flood waters. That and last winter had me a little concerned about our fall trout season. Let me tell you; if the last 2 days are any signs of what’s to come, we are in for another good year.

Me and Michael were out in the wind Saturday and landed 2 nice upper slot drum that could have been good tournament fish weighing in at 12.52 lb. Myself, Gary Dubiel and Tim (tager) Ellis took a trout tagging adventure Tuesday. Fishing is on - not alot of big fish but fun fishing. We tagged 18 trout and probably caught 30+ fish including drum and flounder on morning trip. Keep your eyes out for yellow and red tags in trout from 12” and up. Yellow is a really nice trout embroidered hat and red is worth $300. I have tagged about 20 fish last year and now we did 18 more in this area and continue to tag. Calling in information is important for Tims Doctorate Program and helpinf in determining growth and travel info.

I have had reports from New Bern to Sound of quantities and quality fish being caught all weekend. Some were caught on live bait and others on artificial. Rock have also been doing well in New Bern area waters. I have a special bait in shop for those chasing rock!

My shop tournament is finally getting a fish or 2 weighed in. Ole PiratesAboard (Chuck) had to break the ice with a mear 1.50 trout. He didn’t stay on top long when Eddie Grant came in Sunday with a 3.34#er to compliment almost a double limit for him and his partner Robert Bennett. Speaking of shop event – you can still get in for $35 but cant weigh a fish for 5 days after registering. Tournament runs into first weeks of Jan 2011.

I am trying to keep some live shrimp now. Not sure what rest of the year will bring based on my only 1 supplier. Call for availability but will be keeping mud minnows throughout the winter in tank soon.

I have a special deal running on Minn Kota RT80/SP/CP 54” shaft trolling motors while still available - cheaper than RT70. Call for details.

If anyone would like to take a light tackle trip through the fall and winter targeting trout and rock, call me to schedule.

I will be continually reminding all of Pamlico County Shrine Club Trout Tournament coming up Oct. 23rd. Flyers are in local shops or contact me for more info. Still need additional money and prize sponsors. If you can support in any way – please call me. It will be another fun event with loads of prizes and cash. Put this date down to remember our event and NOT CCA event. Ours is for a better cause helping crippled and burned children. I would like to note that a sponsor has put up $500 to go to the fisherman that is lucky enough to catch a 8# or larger trout. Also this year we have a special trophy going to the largest trout. It is custom made and donated by Steve Barber (Gamefish Sculptures). If it looks anywhere as good as the one my wife had made for me – someone is going to love this award. If you want a quality replica of your fish, contact Steve at SBARBER@ec.rr.com

My website, http://www.pamlicotackle.com, has been upgraded to allow me better option of photos and also videos. Haven’t worked with it good yet but plan to share some of my fishing trips. I am also going to shoot some videos of my inventory to sell online to those not local. Stay toned.
