Do I have a report?
Have had 2 good days this week – Rockin’ and Troutin’
Michael and myself hit the Neuse and had a far day with out of slot sluff. Fat fish but non to keep but 1. A lot of fun on light tackle; much better than large rock on heavy gear. These fish should be moving around some heading up river to spawn.
I had Michaels squeeze, my daughter Crystal out today, and fish inland waters for first time this year and found a good number of 12- 14” fish. We tagged 20 in this range with 3 getting red $100 tags. Freeze hurt us but we still have a stock of fish that hopefully will spawn us back to where we have been. Did also get a nice 17” flounder on my Mirrolure. Will be good with crab meat.
With my reports, I want to get everyone that has been skeptical about our winter outcome, there are some trout around. My thought is we lost some but maybe not as much as expected. Lets all be as conservative as we can to bring back stock as we have had.
I am open for booking a charter for these legal inland waters fish. We can have a good time and also have a good meal if you wish. Inland rules allow keeping trout now,
If you prefer rock, we can do that too.
I have shop open now regular hours BUT, lack of business has me out fishing and sharing what’s actually happening. If I am out fishing, I have a back up plan. First Mate Buddy can meet you at shop to assist.
Be Safe and Conservative

Great Day with a Great Buddy

I had a great trip and mental mind wash today with my fishin’ buddy – Gary Dudiel. Damn what a day!
We started with rock in several spots in Neuse jigging the bottom. Lots of fish with most in non slot range (22-27). Why does anyone want to fish out of town with what we have here?
Next, we went after crappie. What fun. We caught several nice size and tasty(tonight) fish jigging around the trees.
To finish of a great day we ended up targeting shad. No sunshine did not make it the best but did manage one row fat white right at the start. Cant wait for my eggs in the AM. Had several more on but lost and a lot of lost jigs!
You can’t ask for a better day with winds howling but in some protected waters and couldn’t have done this out in open waters today.
If you are wanting a trip to target these exciting fish, let me know. They should be around next couple of weeks. If I can’t get you out I know a great guy that can!

cancun report
Just back from Cancun – whoo, got to get back to reality!!!! Had a great trip with what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico; except my fishing trip! My wife and I charters Capt Marciano of Cancun Tarpon Fishing Adventure (http://www.cancuntarponfishing.com) and had a great time. We were accompanied by Apprentice Guide Jose who was a blast too. Fishing from a Hewes Flats boat we chased large permit sight casting with no takers – my fault or they just weren’t hungry. Then on to blind casting for snapper, catching moon and mangrove on their baits and tackle as well as my TFO rod matched with a Daiwa Exceler 2000 reel casting DOA jig with 3” CAL bait spooled with Fins Braid. What a blast. Lost what I think was a barracuda (Jose’). Then on to late day Tarpon, fishing live sardines live lined in mangrove canals. You could see them working. First hook-up was on my tackle but short lived. Capt said there’s for you quality line!!!!! They use mono. I am not sure if line gave way or hook knot issue???? Jose’! All in fun. Went to their gear for lack of daylight time and hooked up again getting this one to jump numerous times and boated. Upon release, dock bound to get away from mosquitoes like we have. A great time and highly recommend them if you get that way. They have all tackle so no need to care your own. I just like to try my favorites in other areas.
Took my daughter and Michael rocking before going south and we did finally dodge the wind and find some bait and fish. This was only legal of a few caught/lost. Am hearing rock are still hungry with some nice top water catches as well.
They also made a trip to the Cape last week and got into a load of slot drum. Mud minnows did the job.
Hope to get out this week and maybe try the shad too – will report if I do.
Back to regular hours this week – Wed/Sun 8-6. Still recommend on calling in case I get a trip booked and can’t be here. Come see my new inventory. Also call to check on fishing reports and charter bookings, hoping for a good drum bite this spring along with some trout and hopeful strong cobia year again.
Stay safe – water is still COLD for swimming

Valentines Update
I know I havent report much lately but – you know the story. Rock is the fish to target if you care. Action still good and should stay that way with weather and shad run up-coming. Did get my wife on one on my last outing. Going to try her on a barracuda or tarpon in Cancun coming up soon. Will hopefully post some good pics if it all works out and drug lords don’t get us!!!!
I do want to let all know of our stay at River Dunes this past weekend. If you want a very special, quite time you need to stay in one of their cottages. Food is excellent in restaurant too with fishing opportunities is season. They have 1 - 3 bedroom cottages that are really nice. Go to their site www.riverdunes.com for details or call me and i will connect you with someone .
I am concentrating more on my charters this year and will start now with rock and shad trips. This spring I will roll into drum, flounder and hopefully trout if our Fisheries Thugs allow. Everyone needs to slam them will comments along with governor and congress/senate.
I am back on regular schedule in shop 1 March with a lot of new inventory. Temple Fork rods are made with Gloomis technology now and I have these in stock. Also have Penn, Shimano, and Daiwa reels to match up a phenomenal combo.
Need a Power Pole or Talon, I can get and install on site now.
Call me if I can help and be safe – Spring is Coming!

End of COLD hopeful report
Lets hope some trout survive this brutal winter and are extremely fertile! I am having a tough time deciding what to do about our annual Pamlico County Shrine Club Trout Tournament set for Oct 22. We will still have event but may have change of rules or species – stay tuned and guarantee it will still be as fun and rewarding as previous years.
My shop tournament ended the 13th with Eddie Grant sneaking in late to knock Bill Gillespie to second and taking top spot with a 6.12 lber. Bills fish was an even 6 lb and believe it or not; third place weighed only 1.5 lb and went to Chuck Stanley (aka piratesaboard). Believe it Chuck!!!!
Best bet now is rock in and around New Bern using ¼ oz heads and rubber baits such as DOA or Deep Creek. I have caught with both. Also; around bridge, trestle and reef using my Rockin’ Wobble combos work well. Shad run should start soon bring so fun light tackle action in upper Neuse. I have some Deep Creek jigs coming early Feb that George says has out fished my other baits.
Myself and Gary Dubiel did a trip as has already been reported with Mark Nichols (DOA)and Jerry McBride. We had a fair trip getting them some good photos (you have seen some) but man it got cold went front came in with cold rain. They were ready to get back to Florida! We are trying to schedule a few day there with them now.
If interested in a trip for rock, call me for arrangements.
My show orders are coming in. Included in these are Penn Battle, Shimano Sedona, and Daiwa Exceler reels. My 3 best for the buck high quality smooth reels. Also have Fins Wind Tamer Braid coming as my exclusive stocked braid in filler spools or bulk spooling. Add these to a TFO 7 foot ML rod and you have an awesome combo that you can use for all species in our area.
Call me for any information, charter bookings, etc. I will be back to normal hours March 1st with hopefully a clean stocked shop for all.

Cold Weather Update
We can’t get a break with the weather. Some have braved it to find little to no trout bites. Did have one of my tournament guys weigh in a 6.14 lb fish to take the lead. Finishes up Thursday and will give all results and pictures after Henry’s show this weekend.
Rock is still the fish to target. You can find them from Minnesott back to Trenton/Weyerhauser. Look for submerged pilings and structure plus points and ledges. Oh yes – bridges and trestles work well too. Watch for bait; especially on surface. Keep a top water tied on. I have started packaging my Rockin Wobbles combos which work great along with jigs on bottom. I like the Deep Creek rubber baits best and keep a good selection in shop. Saw Henry in Raleigh this weekend at expo and got samples of Deep Creek lead heads and other stuff too. I will be working with him stocking prior to spring.
Speaking of Henry and Deep Creek, mark your calendars for Aug 13. We are putting on a Slam event out of Oriental with full details coming soon. There will be participants from all over the state. And my man Ed will cook as he does for the Pamlico County Shrine Club Trout Tournament! This will be a great event.
Also will now be carrying my favorite braid – Fins – after meeting them at expo as well. Been using it for a year and love it – less kinking/knotting and cast like crazy. For those who have never been like myself – there is a lot of stuff there, salt and freshwater plus boats. I enjoyed it so much I think I will do a booth next year.
Keep in mind these are all AMERICAN MADE – really. Keep our dollars home.
Myself and Gary Dubiel have a trip planned with Mark Nichols (DOA)and his staff. May also get some others, like Blair Wiggins too. Not sure who alls coming yet but will surely give you some entertaining stories soon.
If interested in a trip for rock, call me for arrangements.
I am at the Henrys show Friday thru Sunday. I will have my cell phone with me if you have a request for show discounting on Costa Del Mar, Minn Kota, or anything else. I can buy Penn Gold, Shimano Top Shelf, and Top Line Daiwa. I share these once a year discounts on orders. Call for assistance – 252 670-2841
If you do get out in the water – be damn careful. You won’t last long over board in these water temps and we hate to loose you.

Pre Christmas Update

Well, I let my daughter talk me into a trip today and man was it windy and cold. I did manage to get her on 2 trout – 13 and 14 inch – and that was it. By the way, her first can on a new Deep Creek color grub. If you have tried their baits you may want to. Hard to fish with 10 yards of loop in your line and nowhere to hid. Trout are still hanging in there even with 38 degree water. Tagged 3 and hope to see some return info later to show survival and travel. It was good to spend some good quality time with her.
Bank guys still catching a few as well, takes a lot of patience but pays of if you slow down.
Haven’t heard much on rock but my guess is that is the fish to get after now.
I am in my winter mode now but willing to assist if you call first.
Lastly, I want to wish all a very Merry Christmas and hopes you can spend with you families.

Mid Dec Report
Damn the cold!!! Fished last week and had to break ice to tag about 12 fish in Bay River area. Water temp was 44 away from ice. Don’t think that hurt them too bad but did put them in a hard to find and catch mode. A friend had been on some nice fish to find them gone or not feeding. Then Sunday fell into a load of fish in one spot after fishing for 1 ½ hours without a tap. I was back out Friday still breaking ice and found some 12-14 inch fish to tag. They were in 8-10 foot of water and when I put them in live well they went belly up in 42 degree water. I had to tag and release as soon as caught to get them back into deeper water. We need to cross our fingers for no stunning from this weeks weather, a full week of it.
One of my customers, Fred, is a bank fisherman that does pretty good in the county. He came in with this 4.7 hoping for his first citation. It will come for him.
Rock report from New Bern was awesome this past week. This should stay the same through out the winter in Neuse and Trent. Remember your creel limits!!!
6 pounds is still leading my shop tournament which finishes up 13 Jan 2012. Even have a small 1+ lber in 3rd. Imagine that.
My TFO Temple Fork Rods are here and are definitely the best feeling/action rods I have fished with. Come by and check out these excellent rods built with G Loomis technology.
My mud minnows can survive through the winter for live baiters even in my limited hour winter schedule. They will fish all winter; even in freezing water. Call for availabilty but should have all the time.
Not too late for Christmas presents, I can help you with your Power Pole, trolling motor, and Costa Del Mar needs. Also have gift certificates good for 1 year from purchase.
I hope weather allows great winter fishing and have ample opens for a fun trip with me fishing for trout and/or rock. Call for bookings. I also have access to a great 2 Bedroom house right on Dawson Creek, dock and all. You can catch right off dock too. Call Chris @ 919 215 3566 for detail and reservations and mention you got info from me.
Wednesday, Dec 15 will be my last regular hours day until March 1, 2011. I will be around to assist anyone during this time by calling in advance or if you see me at shop. Live bait can be bought by calling me first to find out how I work it. Call me for details or assistance/charters.

Dec 1 Update

Still getting a citation or two lately. Had a even 6 pounder weighed in today, only fish guy caught in the wind. Lets hope we don’t get a repeat of last year with this cold weather. There are a lot of small fish for next years catch that may suffer. I will continue to tag them and hope Tim Ellis can get returns needed for his data research. Be sure to call in and report where you catch tagged fish and the size at the time. Some fish are under legal size so you can clip of close to body or write down information of tag # and phone #.
Up to date report from rock jetty this weekend – same as here – a lot of small fish.
6 pounds is leading my shop tournament which finishes up 13 Jan 2012. Haven’t seen much of my regular large fish anglers yet but do expect to see some more above 6 to come.
Also going to share by right hand JBs new look – we had a haircut party in my shop Saturday afternoon. He is a major help for me as some of you know having already met him.
My TFO Temple Fork Rods are scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Come by and check out these excellent rods built with G Loomis technology. Will get any of my customers whatever style they want and this will be my major top end rod source.
Cold weather will stop all live shrimp the rest of this year for the guys that did have them. I will carry my mud minnows through the winter for live baiters even in my limited hour winter schedule. They will fish all winter; even in freezing water.
Remember those Christmas presents, I can help you with your Power Pole, trolling motor, and Costa Del Mar needs. Also have gift certificates good for 1 year from purchase.

Dec 1 Update
Trout Trout Trout
Well, larger fish showing up in small numbers as weather cools down. Been tagging a lot of small under 14” fish in support of Tim Ellis C’Mast Program. They are everywhere. Keep eyes open for tags and report in to Tim for his efforts.
I did weigh in a nice but not citation fish today. Bill had a 4.70 trout to take first place over in my tournament. Not sure it will hold but glad for him as hard as he fishes.
TFO Temple Fork Rods are on the way with majority of my first order pre-sold. Thanks to you guys. Will get any of my customers whatever style they want and this will be my major top end rod source.
I am very sorry about not having live shrimp this year but supplier is the big reason. I am in contact with another source with hopes of having then in 2011. I am carrying my mud minnows through the winter for live baiters along with live eels. They will fish all winter; even in freezing water.
Remember, I can help you with your Power Pole, trolling motor, and Costa Del Mar needs. Speaking of Power Pole, one of my customer won the $250 certificate given away during tournament nd has a pole. Anyone wishing to buy a pole can contact me about getting the discount from him toward one.
Christmas is coming soon and have all sorts of gifts available along with gift certificates. Check out Compass this week for information and discounts.
Come enjoy a fun trip with me fishing for trout and/or rock. Call for bookings. I also have access to a great 2 Bedroom house right on Dawson Creek, dock and all. You can catch right off dock too. Call Chris @ 919 215 3566 for detail and reservations and mention you got info from me.

Pre T’day report

Trout story as of today is Carteret County. A lot of small fish still being caught there and some big fish too. Got reports including my own from New Bern to Dawson and not got; lock jaw. Did have one of my buds using live shrimp catching some.
Rock are hitting great in New Bern and around my home in places. I am carrying live eels for live baiters.
Did have 1 citation weighed this week by Ben – nice 5 ½ lber and check out the Bruno Duo – these kids are tough – top water rock!! Go Ben and Zak.
I have picked up a great line of rods, TFO – Temple Fork Outfitters being built with Gary Loomis experience. Have several 7 footers coming in 2 styles. I fished them the other week with Gary and love the action and light weight. Lifetime warranty too. Come check them out – replacing my Blair Wiggins stock with these.

Pre T’day report

Trout are plentiful in some areas – slack in others, particularly New Bern. A lot of small fish still being caught and some big fish too. I lost a 5+ Tuesday at boat and Gary tagged a 26” fish with a RED $100 tag. Watch for it to show up.
Rock reports are coming in too. From New Bern to my area are reports of small and large rock. My baits of choice are my soon to be on shelf “Rockin’ Wobbles”. This is my selection/combination of baits that I know will catch rock. Come see me for these baits. Others work too but mine is easy to fish and hold onto your rod. I will have some packaged before Thanksgiving weekend – closed T’day for family time. I am also carrying live eels for live baiters.
The annual father son event in Pamlico County was held a couple of weeks ago and guys had a big time. Enjoy pictures of winners with their trophies. What’s greater than dads taking kids fishing!!
From Arlington Place – a beautiful soon to be Mom Becca with a nice trout and her hubby Blair with his longtime friend from OBX with some nice fish.
I am carrying my mud minnows through the winter for live baiters along with live eels. They will fish all winter; even in freezing water.

Oct 10 Report

Signs are looking better daily. Still a lot of small stuff with nice fish mixed in in Neuse and Bay River regions. I am also hearing of rock on areas out of New Bern too in 5-6 pond range. My mud minnows have been working well on them too. Remember to be careful where you catch and size for that area!!!!
If I don’t mention this I will have one mad customer/friend. David Raines came in this week with a trout that just made citation material at 5.04#. Be sure to tell him you see this and his picture he’s so proud of. He is also chasing the surf for one of the gators as posted this past week, any girth could have made that fish a state record. Just in – AH Gray just weighed in a 7.40 that I thought would break 8 easy – oh well. Big fish around. Eat your heart out David!
Had a trip with Rivers Dunes with some of the homeowners group and put John on his first trout – not big but 1st!!!!
Gary and myself tagged some more trout this week in the creel size limit too. Keep eyes out for tags and do report into number on tag with size and location.
I hope all will support Havelock Rotary Club trout Tournament set for Nov 20. I am providing link for you to get info and application. Good cause and similar format to our Pamlico County Shrine Club Tournament set again this coming year for Oct 22 2011.
I am carrying my mud minnows through the winter for live baiters.

Early November Report
Cooler weather means lower water temps. With that should bring trout into creeks. And man will there be a lot if all the small stuff moves in. Loads of little fish almost everywhere. A lot of fun but little to eat. Do look for those yellow and red tags in 12” and up fish. Red is $100. Just clip of or write info down and call in size and location for award. Really nice trout design hat for yellow or $5.
Phil came in this week on a windy day trip with a just under 6# fish – 5.94! And Roger; he can do it without you too!!!!!!!! There are some nice fish around but have to work for them. They are being caught on Mirrolure’s, Yozuri’s, Rapala’s, and all sorts of rubber baits
I am carrying my mud minnows through the winter for live baiters. They will fish all winter; even in freezing water.
